How often should I charge my Kindle?

That’s a question with an obvious answer: in the event that the original battery has permanently ceased to function. Thank you for the “no parts serviceable by user” answer. It was helpful.

Dumb question, I know - how do you know if your rechargeable battery is a lithium-ion?

My Kindle 1 has an easily accessible battery, which I have replaced once in over three years of ownership. Since the Kindle appears to be holding up fine, I anticipate at least another battery replacement before replacing the thing.

Youtube shows step by step how to replace the battery in the second and third generations of Kindle using repower kits provided by a vendor.

Well, if it blows up in your face unexpectantly, there’s a good chance it’s a Li-Ion

If you’d like to preserve the battery, turn of the WiFi when not in use. I learned that while traveling.

Almost all modern electronics use Li-Ion batteries.

Only really cheap, often knock-off brands, use nickle-metal-hydride or nickle-cadmium batteries, since (AFAIK) they are cheaper than Li-Ion.

If you’re in doubt, remove the battery cover, somewhere on the battery will be a label telling you what kind it is.

I just charge mine when i get the “battery low” message.

Thanks. That’s good to know. I don’t abuse my electronics, and was hoping I’d get more than 3 years out of my E-reader. I’m glad to know the Kindle seems to be up to long service if I treat it well, and that there’s a battery replacement option.
