For a fair while I couldn’t even look at pork without retching because roast pork has the same smell as burning people.
I heard somewhere that humans were called “long pig” in some place where people were eating people. Where the hell are you from that you come across burning humans? OK, maybe you’re a fireman or an emergency room doctor.

Um… not sure about the “burning humans smell like BBQ pork”, but I loathe uncooked pork because, at least to me, it does smell like dead people. Not that I make a habit of seeking out corpses to sniff, but there was that one really bad train accident where a suicide wound up splatted all over the train I was sitting on. Sort of unforgettable, ya know? Accidents happen, and then you spend the rest of your life explaining out how you know what dead people or burning people smell like and people look at you funny.

From today’s _Korea Times_, [Dog Farms Under Sanitation Rules](http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/nation/2008/08/117_29358.html):

> [@](#):
>
> The Ministry of Environment said it will categorize dogs as livestock to regulate the sanitation practices of large-scale dog breeders.
>
> The central and local governments have refrained from putting dogs on a par with cattle, chickens and other livestock as it means an official recognition of dog meat as food. Under the current law, it is theoretically illegal to butcher dogs and trade their meat.
>
> As dogs are not currently listed as livestock, there are no legal grounds to regulate dog meat restaurants and those who breed dogs for human consumption.

That’s a ministerial (departmental) decision which, of course, will be attacked in the next session of the National Assembly.

Also from the above link:

> [@](#):
>
> However, laws on the trading of dog meat have yet to include dogs in the list of livestock, which means the authorities cannot regulate the trade of dog meat and inspect the sanitation of markets and restaurants selling dog meat.

That’s right. The restaurants serving the stuff _are not regulated in any manner whatsoever_.

Actually, I’ve made one Far Eastern stereotypical comment referring to the practitioners of this reprehensible behaviour, but other than that, I’ve been very unspecific, except in the case of those who eat them for sexual enhancement purposes.

Hi, I’m late to this thread. Congratulations to the OP for bringing up a topic which has led to a long running debate, covering a wide variety of angles from which to look at this subject .
Personally, I have no real issue with the eating of dogmeat - I do think it’s a cultural divide. I’m interested in the OP’s objection to the imbibing of dogmeat to enhance sexual prowess. I appreciate you may think it’s a backward process, but don’t these people have the right to try whatever means they have at hand in order to reignite their sexual prowess? Viagra, it could be argued, is a chemical enhancement. Could dogmeat not be regarded as the ‘organic’ approach? Even a placebo effect is better than none surely?

I’m sure ways could be suggested in which to scientifically study whether or not dogmeat exhibited such ‘properties’, but I think there would certainly be ethical objections if it was suggested by a western organisation. Perhaps an East Asian group might find conclusive proof that violent and brutal treatment prior to cooking does infuse the meat with libido enhancing energy, but I’d suggest that increasing the Oriental male sex drive is not something the planet is in desperate need of.
