It’s funny to watch the graph of my name.

My given name is Julia. I go by Julie.

Julia: 36 45 48 47 66 100 113 131 118 131 88 55 32
Julie: 417 490 480 473 484 319 144 42 18 18 51 125 261
I’ve got both bases covered. When one peaks, the other fades.

But what happened to push Julie to such popularity in the 60s?

I’ll tell you…

“Julie, Julie, Julie do you love me…
Julie, Julie, Julie do you care…”

And so on.

Read “Freakonomics” for other views on why names come and go in popularity.

My sister’s name is Julia. Went by Julie, but now demands Julia…which I sort of understand.

31st in 1910; 388 when I was born and 305 now…I have only ever met 2 other people with my name. It’s a nice name–pretty name. Don’t see why it isn’t more popular, really.
Now, my brother’s name has skyrocketed–guess it’s becoming trendy. Back in the day, he and I were anomalies, name-wise…
And my daughter’s name is Laura. Love the name Laura–can’t stand the name Lauren (go figure!).

Sigh.

“No names starting with \_\_\_\_\_ were in the top 1,000 in any decade.”

That goes for all the names I’ve ever been called by, before and after adoption. I don’t have an Americanized name!

Waa! No anagrams for **Anaamika** , and I can’t play this either. ☹ Going to bed.

Ooh, see I’ve considered getting a name change because I really dislike Julia.

Of course, with the hickster accent around here turning it to Joal-ya… ack. My eyes just rolled so far back in my head that I pulled a muscle.

I assume what you quoted was a song? Egad. How have I missed this? Why couldn’t I miss it longer?

There’s the Lennon song titled Julia as well.

Confession time: Every time I see your name I add “Gee, I think you’re swell.”

And I do! No lie!

(No idea why I don’t sing the Beatles one. That’d make much more sense.)

215 204 241 261 318 343 403 355 245 139 81 (I was born in 1980) 97 64

I think it must be something else. Bobby Sherman was so late in the decade, and in fact this one didn’t hit the charts until 1970. (I had to look it up, he was a big part of my early adolescence.)

My name has been around forever (there was an apostle with it, so hey, it’s old). It really began to take off in the mid-late 1980’s (when I was born).

My brother’s name (which is spelled odly by English/American, German, _and_ Scadinavian standards) began to be popular in the late 60’s and 70’s.

Weird curve on my name (Matthew).

Not very popular in the 1880s and ranked 192 in the 1940’s.
Jumped up to 98 in the 1950’s.
Went up to 36 in the 1960’s.
Reached 10 in the 1970’s.
Topped out at 3 in the 1980’s, when I was born; but has only slipped to 4 since then.

And out of curiosity, I checked the name my mother originallly wanted me to have (Conrad). That ranked 584 in the 1980’s, and reached it’s peak (251) back in the 1930’s.

Finally, my sister’s name didn’t even make the top 1000 until the 1950’s.

It’s a bit scary to see how much popular culture influeneces baby’s names. Type in Rachel, Monica, or Phoebe to see that they all had a huge spike back in the 90s.

My name peaked in the early 30’s, three decades before I was born. It is swirling in the toilet waiting to be flushed when I die sent off into obscurity.
