I am in Northampton, Ma and I will be going to New Haven, CT. Would it be less millage to take route 5 the whole way or route 10 the whole way? ---

Wouldn’t I-91 be the simplest, fastest route to drive? ---

I can’t imgine why you would consider anything other that I-91. ---

I live in New Haven and travel to Northampton kinda often. As was mentioned, I91 all the way. ---

[Google Maps](http://maps.google.com/) is your friend. Get the walking directions for your route, and it should be suitable for cycling. ---

Ah biking. Well 91 would be a bit dangerous, huh? I’m on my phone so I can’t view the map, but the Farmington Canal Trail starts in Northampton and ends in New Haven. I’m pretty sure it still has some breaks though. You might want to google elm city cycling and shoot them an email, they know the best routes around the state. ---

Just off the top of my head, you won’t be able to take Route 5 continuously. When it crosses the river from East Hartford to Hartford, it merges with a freeway until you get on the Berlin Turnpike. I can’t imagine wanting to bicycle on the Berlin Turnpike, but to each their own. ETA: If you go to Google Maps and do walking directions, you’ll see their alternate route for taking Route 5. You basically stay on the west side of the river. According to Google, Route 5 = 77 miles and Route 10 = 76.9 miles.
