…notice that they were “voiding false entries” left and right in the beginning. But they’re letting people have more fun with it now. I think we’ll continue to see funny (and often stupid) gag replies. Mark my words. Tolkien isn’t the only prophet… ---

Supposedly Klerck has earned the reputation of the “ultimate slashdot troll.” So, yeah, its one big joke by a guy who has a history of getting people worked up. The fact that the guys at somethingawful supposedly signed this as well seems to support this. Although, I do wonder about some of those entries that seem like they actually take the petition seriously… And about the person who asked if online petitions accomplish anything–they do not. Even handsigned petitions are generally not worth the paper they’re printed on. Phone calls, handwritten letters, and to some extent email are the only effective ways (other than arranging a _tete-a-tete_ meeting) to accomplish things like this.
