This is a murky area worthy of investigation. My understanding is that the Pentagon has been reluctant to release good estimates regarding the wounded because of [political pressures](http://www.fpp.co.uk/online/03/08/Mueller_050803.html). Official figures list the number of [wounded in action](http://web1.whs.osd.mil/mmid/casualty/castop.htm) at 1268 since the start of the war and 720 between May 1 and September 25, 2003. Oddly enough, their official tables have a blank next to the row for “Nonhostile Casuality” in the “Wounded in Action” table. If anybody knows of any data sources that might indicate “nonhostile casualties”, let us know.
