# How the hell do I add fonts to Photoshop? (Mac)

I’ve tried Googling this, but nothing any link shows works. All the processes I find are for Windows (despite me putting “Macintosh” into my parameters) or assumes that you’re freshly downloading the font from some website, neither of which applies to me.
I have two font files on my HD, already downloaded from a burnt DVD-R that I was given. I want to be able to use them in Photoshop. Double clicking them to open into Fontbook does nothing - they’re not even listed in Fontbook, let alone shown in it. I tried copying them into Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts, but that doesn’t work either.
Help!

You don’t add fonts to Photoshop.
You add them to the _System_.
Put them in /Library/Fonts or ~/Library/Fonts

What format are these font files?
They should show up in Font Book.

Exactly this. If they’re not showing up in Font Book, then the problem is more likely an issue with the actual font files and not where they are placed.

Remember that Photoshop loads fonts when when it opens - if you have it open and then install a font, you’ll have to shut down Photoshop and restart it before you can use it.

They’re a PostScript Type 1 Outline Font and a Font Suitcase.
I have on idea what either of those mean.

I’m not sure if that’s still true. I think I’ve had new fonts appear instantly in my opened CS3 (though that’s on Windows 7).

I think I see the problem.
With postscript fonts like this, you need both the outline font _and_ the font suitcase for each font. With only one part of each, they won’t work.
Such are the perils of glomming hooky fonts from relatives.
