All the dumps in my state are government run. Municipal dumps take a lot. Whatever they don’t take the county will. Often you get so many free trips a year as a resident and then have to pay. So to answer the OP I would take it to the county dump. If hauling is an issue a dumpster isn’t usually that expense. A company will drop one off and take it when you are done a couple hundred and they will take anything non-hazardous. ---

You’ve gotten lots of good advice already, and I don’t know where you live so this may be irrelevant. One of the benefits of living in Canada’s largest city is the number of free lance scrap metal scavengers at work here. The city has a pretty good solid waste management program, however any scrap metal (like a broken down swing set) left near the curb is most likely to get thrown in the back of a beat up pickup long before the city workers show up.
