Suppose I want to find out whether anyone is suing Acme, (and if someone is, who it is). Is there a way to find out something like this online?

The Federal courts have a database called PACER that you can search by a party’s name. Same courts require much more work.

As \*\*Procrustus \*\*alluded, once you start asking about state courts it becomes an issue of how aggressively your state has been pushing to get court records online. In my state, based on some personal litigation, there seems to be a delay of at least several months. However that was when it was picked up by my identity protection service and I’m assuming that they scan those databases on a fairly regular basis.
