# How to Format an xd-picture card

My camera says “card not initiated” when I put my card in. (It’s not a new card.)

Googling reveals I need to reformat the card.

I looked around in my camera’s menus, but could not find an option to format the card.

I looked up the manual for the camera to find out how to do it. I looked for any mention of card formatting. But the only mention I could find in the [manual](http://www.fujifilmusa.com/JSP/fuji/epartners/bin/S5100_S5500_Manual.pdf) (warning, it’s a PDF) is one toward the end which says I should use the camera to format the xd-picture card even if it’s already been formatted by the PC. Okay, nice to know, but _how do I format it_?

Am I just missing it in the manual?

Or, barring that, does anyone happen to have a fujifilm s5100 or closely related model who can walk me through it?

Never mind, the fomat option was staring me in the face.
