Are those pictures supposed to be only 1.5 inches by 2.5 inches? Because that’s how big they are for me.
Inches are a meaningless unit of measure for pictures posted online. Something that’s 1.5 inches on your screen may be 3 inches on mine.
I see your point, though. Those are some very low-resolution pictures (240x140 doesn’t give much information).
Why not? It’s a good science project for the whole family. You’ll be shocked how big that sucker is.
What a satisfying thread to read! I fucking hate these motherfuckers! My mom always told me “just stand still and the bee won’t sting you” YEAH RIGHT! I run like fucksticks anytime one of those yellow-coated vampire bee-dudes gets near me.
You’ve made the world a slightly better place
Generally speaking, that’s not bad advice for bees.
But yellowjackets and other hornets & wasps are a different story. I have little to no tolerance for them - and if they nest anywhere near my house or barn, they’re toast!
Had to share:
The older house I bought last year had insulation blown into the siding by way of 2-inch holes cut into the siding, and the siding holes then capped with little plastic discs.
This afternoon I noticed that one of the plastic discs was missing…and the resulting hole was fucking bristling with wasps, who had set up a nest in there.
I was out of wasp spray, but did have a freezy-type solvent for loosening rusted fittings. Good enough! Step one: get close to hole, nail it with freezy solvent. Stunned wasps tumble out of the hole but the more robust ones lock in on me and chase. Back off fast, while squirting with freezy solvent. Rinse and repeat four times, with a dozen or so wasps coming out of the hole each time and one or two zeroing in on me and chasing.
There’s a tiny part of me that feels bad for killing creatures that are quite properly and bravely defending their homes and babies against something 100000 times their size. That’s just the tiny part, though…the bigger, primal part of me is yelling “YES! I WIN! FUCK YOU! MINE! DIE!1!!1!1!!”
Oh, come on. Chiroptera and insects are sworn enemies and we all know it.
