If you can find a good electric hibachi, I love mine. Unfortunately I can’t find any links to it online, not least because my mother got it when she was in college and I have no idea who made it. It’s perhaps sixteen inches square with rounded corners. An electric coil plugs into a cord that goes into the wall; this is all that heats anything. There’s a very clever series of metal grills and dishes that, when put together, prevent any drippings from getting out. It is the way to grill when you live in an apartment and don’t want to lug charcoal down to one of the communal pits.
I use a cake rack for doing char grilled stuff like sliced vegeatables or bread. I just chuck it over the hotplate and put the food on. It is far quicker than using a grill and more economical for doing food for one or two. If you wanted to I guess you could chargrill bits of meat, chicken or fish the same way.
