How to secure guitar hanger to drywall

I’ll agree that screwing into wood is better than anchors. If the OP has even one stud within 12”, I’d be inclined to attach one end of a 1x4 to the stud with at least two screws, and support the other end (where the guitar hanger goes) with some sort of drywall hanger. The board could hold another one or two hangers for additional items.

Here’s the Project Farm test of dry wall anchors – strength, cost, and how much they mess up a wall. (He’s fond of the same plastic/metal hangers as @Gorsnak .)

Can you hang one from the headstock? I thought they had a tendency to pop off if you looked sideways at them.

For the actual hanger, can I recommend one of these? https://herculesstands.com/international/products/fretted-and-bowed-instrument/guitar/wall-hangers/gsp38wb-plus

It comes with its own wooden mount, and the auto gripper makes it more secure, as well as making the motion more of a straight up and down.

We’ve had ours for years and it’s fantastic.
