There’s also a chi-mix female in the house, she’s 5+ years old, but he must like 'em older and chubby, cause I walked in on him one day giving her what we would call cunnilingus. I think he’s too small to do much else, although my roommate said he had seen him try to mount her. So, thanks to all who tried to help with the cocking a leg problem; I’m going to get him fixed so please pray he’s not too old for that to work!!🙂 ---

No, he doesn’t go outdoors to pee, although if I’ve let him out to play and the urge comes upon him he will then. And he IS housebroken, he pees on a pee pad. ---

Neutering is a good thing to do, even now, and it might help. But some kind of vertical containment is going to be needed to let him keep peeing indoors - so a box with a pee-wall, or the shower idea is going to be needed. If you were to compare what Courage lets out with what the Chi-mix (Tina) does, you’d be shocked! (Least I was!) Tina definitely tests the limits of a pee pad when she goes, while he could use his pee pad repeatedly if I could stand to leave it down that long. (I have a super-sensitive nose, and can’t stand the smell of pee.) Several people mentioned something for him to pee against… for around 20.00 I got a little (about a foot tall) replica FIRE HYDRANT!!! It is the cutest thing you’ve ever seen, especially when he goes up and sniffs at it, then turns around and cocks a leg on it!! There have been times he’s gone elsewhere (in already prescribed pee spots) but I’m sure he’ll get better. Then in November when he goes for ‘the operation’, I think if he does still ‘cock a leg’, he’ll know where to go!! Thanks to all of you, Voltaire, Amateur Barbarian, Jackmannii, SciFi Sam, and anyone else I’ve forgotten. BTW, right now I forget who it was that said it, but the only time I would put my dog in a crate is if it was necessary to make a long distance trip. My Courage is like my child, and I wouldn’t lock either of them up in a crate either. ---

Started with a pee pad, then gradually moved that inside the bathroom & into the shower, then eventually skipped the pad entirely. The dog kept on using the shower, and seems to like the freedom to pee anytime he wants to (except when someone is taking a shower!) ---

Hurricane indoor pee station: plastic kiddie pool, 2 or 3 pieces of sod, and a log or tree stump cut-off – your pet store hydrant should substitute fine for the faux tree The sod will last a surprisingly long time if you give it a bit of water now and then, to dilute the little pee spots. And although you don’t mention poop, this will also provide a better place than the kitchen floor for that other kind of ‘relief’.
