How to stop an illegal war before it starts

Why make a minority viewpoint then try to claim that opposing that viewpoint is off-topic?

IIRC there are certain provisions that allow very limited military engagement by Presidential order without actual Congressional approval or any of the other stuff.

Look at Carter’s Operation Eagle Claw, the bombing of Libya in 1986, the destruction of the Iranian Navy in 1988, and all the missile attacks during Clinton’s term. Pretty much all of that was done without formal Congressional approval- no War Powers act, no declarations of war, etc…

And anyway, the remedy would be for Congress to tell the President to knock it off or face impeachment. We know that’s not going to happen; if they’re willing to condone all the BS at home, they certainly DGAF about some random South Americans in a boat somewhere.

He’s our “Tune in for tonight’s thrilling episode!” president.

Coincidentally, I am wearing this T-shirt right now. (‘In an emergency, this is where you can commit seppuku.’)

I read that one of Mr. Potato Head’s justifications for sinking a boat was that it had ‘fentanyl dust’ on it. Um… I don’t think fentanyl comes from Venezuela.

I was going to thank you for some examples, but these ain’t it. I don’t want to argue it here, it’s a distraction from the main thread. Maybe I’ll start a new thread on the topic of Persons of Principle in Politics (has a nice ring to it, just don’t stand too close when you say it).

An honest request to debate an interesting historical issue is met with insults.

Can you provide a quote from the Wikipedia page that supports your claim?

But a debate on the nature of Cato the Younger is NOT particularly on-topic for this thread other than as a brief example. @Stranger_On_A_Train did right by taking it to another thread, even if you would prefer it to be in another forum. If you want to carefully debate the historical nature of Cato, feel free to open a thread in an appropriate forum. @Andy_L you also aren’t helping. No warnings to any, but if you want a serious debate create a new thread, if you want to sling insults, there’s open threads for that.

My apologies.

And that’s not helping either. All, Drop the hijack and insults in this thread. Keep it in the Pit, or start a new thread. @Stranger_On_A_Train - you didn’t need the parting shot. Next continuation of the insults or adding to the “debate” is earning a warning whether it’s @DrDeth or @Stranger_On_A_Train. This is way to personal for P&E and extremely off topic.
