An old SDMB thread ["not negotiable" on cheques, banking cheques ("checks") - Factual Questions - Straight Dope Message Board](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=311662) points out a problem with “Not negotiable” - it doesn’t necessarily mean what you think it means!
