Yep, september 11th will be forgotten, just like every other disaster. This will take a little longer than the average 6 months, but I predict within 4 or 5 years, it will be long forgotten.

In a very importance sense, I think it already has been forgotten. People have lost their outrage. Their fear has been replaced by a new bureaucracy, and they’ve once again given over their vigilance to the people who are least trustworthy to maintain it.
Oh, sure they remember the event; but they’ve forgotten the day.
I think it in the West it will be tokenised into an inviolable, hallowed subject for many years, but one that will eventually fade, after several generations, into history. We know there were years of horrific battles in WWI, but how many people are genuinely emotionally moved by the stories of slaughter at the Somme or Flanders?
Re. prelude: I really don’t think it was a prelude. I think that was “the big one” until al Qaeda regroup. Why would they do something so huge, then try to do something else afterwards? It doesn’t make sense, tactically, since it would alert the West to their murderousness and tactics. And I hope Western intelligence is awake enough to catch anything else of similar (or smaller) scale…

Are you cynical? (asked very politely). I do not understand what you mean when you say that we have ‘forgotten the day’. I was horrified and shocked and so angry I would have signed up right then if I hadn’t been too old (41 yrs). But, life goes on. Shock and anger is replaced by resolve and determination. Also, If we’ve given over vigilance to those “least trustworthy” who would be “most trustworthy” to maintain it?
