How would legal marijuana be packaged?

For some reason, this legend always focuses on the marketing side. What about their secret plans for standardized cultivation? Also, why is it just the tobacco companies? It would make as much sense for any big food and beverage processor–a close association with tobacco might not be the greatest marketing direction to come from anyway.

It’s apparently available for medicinal purposes in Michigan as well - I have seen a few freeway billboards, and remember my mother mentioning it being on the ballot (although I don’t remember voting for it). I suspect I could call the number on those billboards for more information.

Pretty much this, right?

Willie Nelson. And I guess Woody Harrelson could be Joe Camel.

Ultimately, I think the packaging etc. will be dictated by demand and market research. If people want brownies, they’ll sell brownies.

Man, my imagination is really running away with me now. I’m picturing Humbolt County as the new Napa Valley, with people going on weekends to Weed Country, Jello hits, seasonal strains and ten cent joint night in Cleveland.

Legal MJ was brought up as a land use issue at a national webinar on planning recently. The presenter stated that there are 14 states right now with legal MJ laws of various levels. We can expect MJ cultivation to become the subject of zoning laws and planning regulations in the not too distant future. The main issue raised was how to treat home-growing operations. Are they agriculture? If so, can one “farm” in a residential neighborhood? Is it a home occupation? Should it be treated like people selling home-grown tomatos? All things that will need to be worked out in each state.

I was thinking Cheech and Chong. From what I’ve heard, Cheech has moved on to other things, I want to say something to do with high-brow art. Last I heard, Chong was still playing the same character, most recently on That 70s Show.

I guess for the youngsters, you could do a few spots with Harold & Kumar…

If big companies started selling Cheech and Chong weed, the black market would flourish. I would be embarassed just to buy that!

A sketch from A Bit of Fry and Laurie:

Hugh Ah, yes. Brought some samples along as a matter of fact. [Hugh gets out two small sachets.] Haven’t actually settled on brand names yet. But there’s basically two products. The blue sachet is cocaine and the red is heroin.
Stephen I’m sorry?
Hugh My own market research and some work undertaken by the packaging and graphics team has revealed that cocaine is thought of as a fresher, brighter product, hence the blue, and heroin is warmer and more passionate, therefore red. You disagree? I’d value your input.

So in green sachets, I’d say.

It would make a TON of sense for food manufacturers. I’d bet that Frito-Lay is all over this.

I never saw that bit … I bet it is very funny.

Although it sort of makes sense.
If you look at grass medically, it seems to have 2 functions, anxiety and pain control.

Anxiety could be in soft comforting blue tones, light blue for mild pot, medium blue for average pot and dark blue for strong pot. Same with pain control pot, mauve for mild pot, darker red for regular pot and screaming fire engine red for the strong stuff.

Not sure about recreational weed, but probably something graphical so the different brands are easy to ID - like Amsterdam Whammy brand with a picture of a canal boat on it or something =) I knew a guy back in the early 80s who sold, and he used an owl as his brand marking, he used one of those wax stamping kits to seal his baggies and his stamp thingy had a picture of an owl on it. He gave people a bit of a discount if you gave him the seal back next time you bought from him. He also owned his own business so he had a way to put your purchase on your credit card +)

If I may ask, how did you obtain the prescription? Did you go to your regular doctor?

I have heard reports of walk-in clinics next door to the legal marijuana dispensary, where you go in and give a standardized complaint of chronic headaches or whatever is the standard line, and they write you a scrip for an affordable fee. Is that how it works?

Shodan

It would be ironic that, having finally gotten the stuff legal that potential pot smokers would run up against all the anti-smoking laws out there. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’d say that it will be sold essentially the way tobacco is sold today. You’ll be able to get it in pre-packaged cigarette form, upscale in something like a cigar form (with a natural leaf wrapper perhaps), mixed (tobacco and MJ), snuff (and sure, why couldn’t you snort it??), and loose (where you could use it for cooking or whatever). At a guess, the best selling product would be the machine rolled type, with loose being the second favorite (not sure what the market for snuff or chewing MJ would be…I’d probably go the upscale cigar type, depending on the flavor).

Let’s just say not all doctors will write the scrips, but there are a lot that do. I already knew people in the industry. Growers are always looking to get scrips for people, because then they are a caregiver and can grow 6 more plants. As for doctors next to dispensaries? I’m sure but I bet they get closed down for grey area reasons. Really don’t know all the laws, though. How to find a grower? Go to a concert and sniff for the best smelling weed. There’s your man! They keep the best for themselves.
