Medicinal marijuana and the legalization of marijuana in Colorado might be a big shock - especially for someone coming from the “just say no” / Nancy Reagan era 80s.
The fact that Michael Jackson is already dead and the fact that Madonna is considered a has-been aging crone by a lot of the population would be likewise be a shock to a kid from 1985.
And let’s be real - Barack Obama.
Ok, just scanned this thread on first read. Didn’t see that these were already mentioned.
He might ask "What is ‘global warming’?’
People get old. Why should that be such a surprise to even a teenager?
Actually, the fact we’re still talking about Madonna nearly 30 years later would be a bigger shock since a lot of people in 1985 pegged her as such a creature of the 80s that her career would end when the decade did.
Where we’re going there are no glaciers…
Yes that’s true but it would still be a major shock. Madonna in 1985 was the quintessential essence of youthful sexual energy. To instantaneously go from that to seeing her at the recent Grammys (with her grown son no less) …it’d be a shock. Especially for a teenager who may intellectually understand the concept of aging, but not really grasp it.
On that track in fact, Fox would likely be more stunned at the notion that a lot of the music he likes would be considered “oldies” than he would at the new things he would be confronted with. In general, I think that an American teenager would have less difficultly adapting to new technology than he would grasping the concept that his personal frame of reference would be considered old or passe.
on the subject of smart phones - all the wireless, bluetooth headsets - everyone is wandering around talking to themselves - or issuing questions to the phones via voice, etc.
15 minutes in a busy downtown - you can’t help but notice how no one is talking to the people around them.
Self checkout in the grocery stores.
I don’t remember if anyone said streaming services, but not only streaming services…
…not only torrents for new movies (which I don’t approve of) but torrents for movies it would be very difficult to find or that someone might want an arm and a leg for.
Yes, President Obama would be quite a shock.
Marijuana much more widely available, even legal in some states.
