**djf750** , you’re kind of missing the point. Using a combination of lower and upper case letters makes it easier to tell where your sentences are beginning and ending, thus aiding greatly in comprehension. All caps is, admittedly, a little easier to read than all lower case, but the essential problem remains. If you have something you really want to communicate, it simply makes sense to be as clear as possible to prevent misunderstandings. Obviously, I’m in no position to force you to type the way I want, nor do I have any deep emotional involvement in it one way or the other. I’m just curious as to why you want to make it difficult for people to understand you, and, to a lesser extent, why you take such offense at people who question your typing techniques. ---

I didn’t say they _couldn’t_ understand you, I said you made it more difficult for people to understand you. Since the vast bulk of the text we see everyday uses proper capitalization, we are used to seeing it. We’re trained to expect a capital at the beginning of a sentence or proper name. When its not there, there’s a half-second of disconnect while you mentally edit what you just read and figure out what you’re trying to say. It sounds minor, but its distracting and makes it harder to follow whatever point you may be trying to make. To me, it comes down to simple politeness. The people who take the time to read what you write are basically doing you a favor. They’re taking the time out of their day to give thought and attention to your opinions. It just seems polite to me to make it as easy as possible for your audience to follow what you’re saying. I’m still not sure why your taking this so personally. I suspect you have more practice corresponding with other people who write like you do, over IM and in chat rooms, so this seems like a real triviality to you. But keep in mind not everyone has as much practice at this sort of thing as you do, and find this kind of writing to be really aggravating. Speaking personally, trying to read really long pieces without proper capitalization or punctuation (much longer than your posts, I mean like a page or so) will give me a headache. ---

It’s been a while since I peeked into this thread. Boy, has it changed. To **djf750** : Your reaction to **ladyfoxfyre** ’s suggestion to use capitalization struck me as remarkably thin-skinned. The suggestion was made not to insult you, but to give you some advice on making your posts more readable. I don’t know about the rest of the Dopers, but when I see a post that is bloody difficult to read, I tend to skip it. Typing in all caps is normally considered Internet shorthand for shouting. Your posts now read like they were typed by Loud Howard from the Dilbert[sup]TM[/sup] comic strip. Since words are the foundation of this website, and the only way that most Dopers will ever know each other, it behooves the poster to craft their contributions in a manner that makes it easier for others to read. This means capitalization, punctuation, and reasonably sane grammar. A post lacking in these attributes will not put its creator in a favorable light. So try to take the suggestion in the spirit in which it was intended. You made the choice to escalate it into something far greater than it deserved. You have the choice to continue in this manner and eventually get ignored, or to accept the suggestion and become a worthwhile contributor to this forum. Choose wisely. ---

I’ll admit that I almost always get “business” wrong when I’m typing. I have problems with “beauty,” too. Always takes me a minute to remember where that “a” goes. However, I am doing my best to write clearly and correctly. I’m making a good faith effort to make my writing as easy to follow as possible. Which is all I’m asking you to do. Take another look at what **Atreyu** wrote. It’s damn good advice, and sincerely offered. ---
