Exactly.
The Adam West Batman didn’t come out of nowhere. A campy, goofy Batman is every bit as valid an interpretation of the character as, say, Nolan’s grittiness. There are literally decades worth of comics featuring a more lighthearted Batman.

Michael Keaton.
I’m not sure if I’m being wooshed or not. Do you seriously believe that comics are required to be funny?
Kevin Conroy is Batman. Everyone else is an actor in a costume.
I seriously don’t have time for them if they’re not…
Every time someone refers to “Keaton” in this thread, I picture Diane in the role.
Diane Keaton? No.
But Buster Keaton? He would have made a great Batman.
I’ve heard Ron Perlman as Batman (Justice League Heroes) and it worked very well.
Kevin Conroy is hands down the best, agreed.
Bale
Keaton
Haven’t watched either of the other two in so long. But I’ve always said that George Clooney did an excellent Bruce Wayne.
Who needs to “rate” them when we have plain stats? Hank Aaron broke Babe Ruth’s record, end of story.
Excellent non-answer.
Keaton
Bale
Kilmer
West
Clooney
While I like TAS better than any of the movies, I don’t think a voice actor really can be compared. Conroy doesn’t have to physically emote while delivering his lines, and that was Kilmer’s biggest downfall as Batman.
Bale needs to start smoking a couple of packs a day if he wants to pull off his Batman voice. Until he does that, it just sounds fake, which constantly pulled me out of my belief-suspension during DKR (Not so much in Begins, oddly enough)
Keaton does a serviceable job as a somewhat airheaded Bruce Wayne, and did a great job as Batman himself.
Honorable mention should go to Dick Gautier, Hymie the robot of Get Smart fame, who appeared in this PSA with Burt Ward as Robin and Yvonne Craig as Batgirl.

Adam West had declined to participate in the commercial, as he had wanted to put some distance between himself and his Batman role, so Gautier was called on in hopes that the suit would fit him. It did, and Gautier managed to pull off a passable imitation of West’s distinctive Batman voice cadence.
I’d give the nod to the guy from the Snickers commercial.
I’ve never seen any of the Batman movies, save the ones with Bale. I couldn’t see any of the predessors as being believable, probably because I already knew them from other roles and didn’t feel they had the gravitas…especially Keaton who I primarily knew as a light comedian.
Bale was an unknown quantity, however, and I think he’s fine…except his voice did start to become a distraction about half way through The Dark Knight.
Ledger of course, was brilliant! What a damn shame.
I can’t rank anyone having having only seen the last two Batman movies (and Batman and Robin for some horrible reason), but some of you might enjoy this article, it’s hilarious. Bat Battle: Who’s the Best Movie Batman Ever? I especially liked the comparisons between all the various Batman costumes. Note, this article was written before the Dark Knight was released.
There’s always a physical aspect to acting going far beyond action sequences, whether it be how an actor stands as he delivers his lines, facial expressions, gestures or any of a host of other movements that can add or detract from a role. Just because Conroy can produce what you determine to be the best Batman voice (I’ve never seen the Animated Series so I have no comment either way) does not mean he can be compared to actors who can (and have to) project their Batman/Bruce-ness through the physical, as he has animators to do that for him.
Diedrich Bader? I had no idea what you guys were talking about so I searched IMDB and found out there is a new Batman series!? I just added it to my series recordings. What else am I missing?
