Has SHS ever\* guaranteed\* something somebody else didn’t do something? I agree she should have said the President’s comments speak for themselves, but I don’t think it’s reasonable to ask someone to guarantee somebody else _didn’t_ do something. ---

That’s not the same thing as asking if she heard a tape. Asking if she had heard the tape is a reasonable question. Asking if she can _guarantee_ it doesn’t exist is not reasonable. ---

Of course most people already believe he’s a racist, but belief and actually hearing that incendiary word are different. Right now, there is a fig leaf over his racism that allows his supporters/enablers to hide/deflect. (Perhaps not very convincingly, but still…) But with this - if it is true and taped - there is no hiding, no explanation or equivocation that would wash with the vast majority of people. And 45 might not give a shit, but congresspeople sure do. There’s a lot of racism in this country, but we have at least progressed a metaphorical millimeter to a place where saying the n-word out loud is absolutely verboten if you want to maintain your reputation. Now, I’m not saying he’d be removed from office over it, because it’s not a high crime or misdemeanor, but I believe it would be very damaging nonetheless, and would ruin any chance of re-election, making him a very early, very lame duck. ---
