My mother came to New york with her parents when she was just about 12 months old from Puerto Rico. I believe my grandparents were descendants of slaves brought to Puerto Rico from Spain to work in the sugar cane fields. My dad’s parents are from Louisiana, descendants of French Canadians who migrated to the south. so to sum things up: mom-Spanish dad-French * * * so you found a girl who thinks really deep thoughts. what’s so amazing about really deep thoughts? **dlv** : There’s a subtle difference in the intended joke. 1. **a** little Mexican in you = you’re pregnant by Mexican father 2. **some** Mexican in you = a part of a Mexican’s anatomy in a body cavity of yours If he says “1” and means “2”…he’s saying he is not well-endowed, which could add to the joke, but _machismo_ may not allow that. He is already married, so I doubt he wants to impregnate someone, thus he would not say “1” and mean it. Also, remember he says this to males as well as females. Sorry for the temporary hijack. About 33% each French, English and Dutch. (Don’t ask!) Obligatory Celtic (Welsh, Scottish, and Irish back) in the English line. Misc. Spanish and such back in the French line. ---

Polish. My great-grand folks on both sides came on by right about WWI. From what I understand, my great grandfather on my mother’s side didn’t know my great grandmother at the time and married her on the boat because she had some open sores and the US wasn’t going to let her off the boat. As the spouse of someone they were already letting into the country, they had to take her as well. Sweet story (well, as romantic as you can get using the phrase “open sores”) but as it turns out, they spent the next however many years hating each other. Generic human mongrel: Paternal: pure German (3rd generation) Maternal: mostly Scots, in 2 distinct waves that the family geneaology buffs have pinned down. Though there is probably some English in there somewhere (I assume) because my great-aunt got into the DAR based on descent from one of the Declaration signers. I forget his name, but he was one of the signers from New York and mostly notable for going spectacularly bankrupt after the Revolution. Morris, or something; is that English? (BTW, my family is mostly notable for going bust: make a bundle, lose it. Sigh.) Veb ---
