With the turn of the century he retook the swinging lifestyle in force, and I bet it was because of what I mentioned earlier (“I’ve made my mark, time to kick back and let go”). Still, it’s not like this is someone who’ll just plug anyone that walks in off the street, we’re talking a discriminating consumer who can pick and choose. Someone like him was probably extremely aware of any emergent risk factors all along, specially considering how in the early 80s, before HIV broke through, there was already concern over herpes and antibiotic-resistant clap.
BTW, vetbridge didn’t mean to sound condescending to YOU in that first sentence, you are a trained health professional (just different type of patients) after all, but you never know who else may be reading and to me it is just obvious. Just wanted to draw attention to that high activity means high potential risk, but still manageable risk.

Graham, you are new here. Furt has been posting for a long time and many of us know him as someone well-centered and in touch with who he is.
You asked for opinions and he has given his. There are many people that would not be happy leading the lifestyle that Hugh Hefner appears to have lead. (Of course, no one knows the reality except Mr. Hefner.) That does not make them unhappy people.
I will try not to judge you for envying that lifestyle. Maybe you can extend the same courtesy to those male Dopers who would be unhappy to settle for that.
Most of the women I know would not settle for being treated like a “thing.” Nor would they want a man who thought of them only as bunnies.
I also, find him not living my dream. I cannot fathom (I almost said concieve 
) having that many partners, ugh.

What kind of “depth” are people looking for Hef to have? He may for all we know have a large number of close friends, including his various women. Personally, I would find being around women who are as vacuous as the Pets appear to be. At least when I wasn’t having sex with them. Of course I would probably be having constant sex with them so I guess his lifestyle does kind of make sense.
