I vaguely recall him saying it was his high-school football jersey number, or something. In any case, it’s a lucky number in the Far East (well, 8 is, but running a bunch of them together is extra-special or something). ---

In case it wasn’t obvious, I do not remotely entertain the belief that **Huerta88** is a Nazi sympathizer or otherwise enamored of the phrase “Heil Hitler.” I’m just saying that, as ridiculous as the notion is, he idea that ‘88’ is code for neo-Nazism has some currency and I invite Huerta to consider how, if he wishes to at all, he might counteract that. ---

I have to hijack here to tell a funny nazi story. When I was younger, and much more objectionable, I was into MUDs (for you uninitiated, that’s an internet version of a text-based D&D type of game). Anyhow, for one of them, I chose the name “Himmler” simply because I had been listening to Denis Leary’s “No Cure for Cancer” cd and wondered how many people would find this name offensive. So I signed on, applied for the name Himmler, and it didn’t take long for an admin of some sort to contact me and tell me that someon people had a problem with my name. Innocently, I asked “What’s wrong with it?” The reply was classic… “It sounds a little bit too much like Hitler” Joe (Not a Nazi supporter in any way) ---

Heh. In college I majored in German in a one year submersion program up in Bemidji, Minnesota. We had spring break and a group of us went to a friend’s cabin in southwestern Minnesota. We were going in and out of German the whole weekend and thought it’d be fun to go out to eat and pretend we’re from Germany and that we don’t speak English very well. We got quite the cold shoulder from the employees there and just chalked it up to them not liking foreigners… until one of us went to use the restroom. He came back out and told the rest of the table that there seems to be quite the neo-nazi movement in town and that there were swastikas and anti-semitic stuff all over the bathroom walls, stalls, ceiling, everywhere. Oops. ---

While I don’t remotely entertain the belief that you are in fact incredibly stupid, I would invite you to consider how you might wish to counteract the impression your name gives.
