Folks, I got the truck all packed and left for Califoria this morning, 150 miles from home I got a call from my “new boss” who tells me to go home, he is now not sure if I have been hired or not, he is “following up on this” and “will get back to me”. Apparently word came down from the big boss that for some reason they needed to discuss my hiring (but they have known for 2 weeks that he was going to hire me). I don’t understand, I worked for these guys 10 years ago and left on good terms (I thought). aaarrrggghhh! unclviny ---

Wasn’t one of the SDMB law-talking-guys just saying that you can’t be enticed into moving to CA, then instantly fired? I guess you havn’t been technically hired, but still, I smell litigation. Post a “can I sue these bastards?” thread in GQ. ---

I am not moving, I am going to commute (I work a 28 on and 28 off rotation), according to Mapquest it’s 1,678 miles. The new boss called a little while ago and told me it was just a paperwork thing and to “come on” so I am getting back on the road in the morning. unclviny ---

Nope, I need my truck for work (getting to and from the rig/motel) and they pay $.34 a mile. Some of the out-of-state workers fly (the company pays for the tickets) and they rent sub-compact cars by the week while at work, but little cars scare the crap out of me (I had 2 nasty car wrecks in the 90’s) so I am driving. Working a 28 and 28 rotation it won’t be that bad, I am used to driving 500 - 600 miles to work anyway (I have been doing it for over 10 years now). unclviny
