That the phrase “God willing and the Creek don’t rise” probably refers to Creek Indians, not streams.

Damn, **Earl** , that’s news to me, and I AM a Creek Indian AND I live near a Creek. The things one learns hanging around you smart people.

Regarding **Fessie** ’s revelation, the Cree live(d) in the northern tier states and Canada, the Creek live(d) in the Southeast (Georgia, Alabama, North FL, and SC) and never the 'twain shall meet.

Once I was watching an MST3K episode wherein the 1950s monster movie _Revenge of the Creature_ was being panned. There’s a scene early on where Our Hero (MST demi-god John Agar, of course) is doing some work in his lab, when a young lab technician comes up and asks him something…and it’s Clint Eastwood! It seems that poor old Clint lost track of one of his lab rats, but don’t worry, the little critter was in his coat pocket the whole time. Oh, Clint, whatever will you goof up next? As Servo says, “this guy’s terrible, this is his first and last movie.”

On an older note, Mark Twain’s birth AND death were within short time periods of two different approaches of Halley’s comet.

Fact #1: Roger Clemens’ son plays for our local team, the Salem Avalanche. He’s a catcher. That fact is less interesting than the way I learned it: while headed into my father’s local pseudo-upscale restaurant for a couple drinks two days ago, I very nearly ran smack into Roger Clemens. I did a classic double-take (less from the shock of seeing him and more of a rapid fire “holy shit there’s someone in my way…holy shit it’s Roger Clemens”), shook his hand, and sat down to have my drinks.

Fact #2: Roger Clemens is a very nice man and an excellent tipper. 😃

b) A dance instructor in the Catskills,
c) Who was an advisor on the film “Dirty Dancing,” and

One of Ms. Horner’s escapades was having run away from home numerous times. Once, (at age 14, I think) she was gone for a week. She was later found having been holed up in a motel room with a sailor.

Five years earlier, in the 1942 movie “Panama Hattie,” her father in the film introduces her to some sailor buddies. One of them jokingly asks her if she’s dating anyone.

John Hinkley was “inspired” by the movie “Taxi Driver” to kill Pres. Reagan to impress Jodie Foster (good luck with that, dude!).

That I knew.

What I didn’t know until the past year or so was that “Taxi Driver” was inspired by the attempted assassination of George Wallace by [Arthur Bremer](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Bremer).

[Who knows for sure?](http://www.word-detective.com/2008/02/12/hell-or-high-water/) Perhaps the phrase was already known in the “small-c” sense of the word _creek_ when Benjamin Hawkins (see first link) wrote to Andrew Jackson and decided to make a pun by invoking the name of the tribe.

John Huston takes an uncredited role in _The Treasure of the Siera Madre_. I believe that his face is never seen. He’s wearing a white suit and getting his shoes polished when a Mexican child tries to sell him a lottery ticket. The child is also uncredited. It is Robert Blake.

You may have seen John Huston’s daughter, Angelica, recently in episodes of _Medium_. She played Allison’s employer whose daughter had been kidnapped several years ago.

Angelica Huston and Jack Nicholson were once a couple.
