I understand that Marvel/Disney can’t make solo movies about the Hulk or the Sub-Mariner because Universal owns the film rights to those characters. But isn’t there a requirement that Universal make a new movie about them every 5 years or so to keep the rights from reverting to Marvel’s owner? That hasn’t been happening. Also, does Universal own She-Hulk, a derivative Hulk character?

Disney made a She Hulk show, so that part seems unlikely.

Yeah, I’m just wondering how the arrangement with Universal differs from the one with Sony, and how TV shows are impacted by film rights. I figure someone here on the Dope would know the specifics.

Just had [a quick look](https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelstudios/comments/csnwnu/what_is_universal_studios_even_doing_with_the/) around the Internet, and it seems they **don’t** have the film rights to the characters at all, they have the _distribution rights_ to a solo film about each character. And therefore the right of refusal for a solo movie under Marvel. Which is the sticking point, as they actively are refusing solo movies, for some petty reason.
