Anybody for a chimera?[chimera?](http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2005/01/0125_050125_chimeras.html) It’s not new news, but the topic came up again today in the L.A Times, so let’s have at it. How far should this sort of research go? We’ve already got geep. What about a humanzee? ---

Interesting topic, but just FYI, it’s been done many, many times in GD. I’m not sure how you manage science. If it can be done, someone somewhere is going to do it. Better to regulate and control it rather than ban it and have it done surreptitioiusly. ---

My people! 😃 Personally, I’d love to see a humanzee. I don’t think we are going to see any unless a non-American scientist makes them though. The American public would be way to afraid to make it, I think. Chimera also refers to humans or animals who have two or more sets of DNA in different parts of their body. ---

Two very different things. Yeah, but the new meaning has caught on and now most of the scientific publications that I’ve read refer to these hybrids as chimeras. I wish they had picked a different term if they didn’t feel like writing cross-species-hybrid each time they talked about it, but oh well.
