One of the eggs hatched this morning. I barely caught a glimpse of the little thing down in the nest. One more egg to go. ---

This thread reminded me that I haven’t seen the hummer who used to lay her eggs in a nest she had built in our entryway lamp every year (photos in [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=14129486&postcount=19) thread). When I went out to look, I found that someone had stolen the nest. :mad: ---

At the moment there’s just a pulsating, hairy thingy down in the nest. I’ll keep watching to see if it’ll resolve itself into a chick. ---

Oooh, hummers! My favourite birdie. We have them here year-round now, and I have two feeders. Making nectar in the chill of December. Making sure the feeders come inside overnight to stay thawed in January. Once you start with a feeder, they expect you to keep it up… and they are not shy about letting me know when it’s time for a refill. They seem to be eating very well. Most of the time when I see mom return to the nest, they don’t bother even lifting their heads and has to poke at them like “Hey, hey here’s food, open up!” ---

Bad news, the hummingbird nest was attacked by a large bird yesterday evening. Mama survived and is re-building the nest. I’m not sure what exactly happened to the babies but I’m sure it wasn’t good.
