> Are you kidding? You really either a)think directly breast-feeding a puppy is OK or b) that breast-feed-in-public crowd would think it’s OK? I’ll tell you one thing, while I may drink cow’s milk, I don’t put my mouth directly to her teat and slurp away. I buy it in a bottle, and it would be much less disturbing if she used a breast pump.

Do I think it’s ok? Not really, but they’re not my teats. I don’t even have functioning teats, so I can’t even make a reasonable judgement about how icky this is or isn’t.

And I understand that it’s pretty common while milking a cow to squirt some milk directly from the udder into someone’s mouth. Just cause you get it in a nice plastic jug doesn’t really change where it comes from.

The article does seem to indicate that the baby stopped taking the milk. I call BS. I personally have never heard of a baby deciding the breast just isn’t doing it for them any more. The mother, as far as I know, almost always has to initiate the discontinuation of breast feeding. The process is called weaning. Some mothers continue to feed their children directy from the source for years. “Mommy? I’m thirsty…”

Eh, I’ve seen weirder. We once had a cat in our ICU whose owner insisted that our twice-daily visitation policy was inadequate, because the cat nursed three times a day. This was an adult cat, mind you, and this woman wasn’t lactating. It was just a comfort/bonding thing. (For the record, we didn’t let her have extra visits. The cat did fine.)

**Elenia** , he’s saying that the “one step from bestiality” people are full of horseshit. If breastfeeding is nonsexual, as advocates keep telling us, then this has absolutely nothing to do with her being into dogs in that way. If this is one step from bestiality, then breastfeeding must be sexual and thus shouldn’t be done in public.

Yes it DOES. Milk from the cow is milk from the cow. Milk in the jug has been pasteurized, and made into 2 % /whole /skim /what have you. It is not the same thing at all.

And I know it happens, my family in India is farmers. But just because people do it out of necessary doesn’t mean it’s OK, or common.

I have my own, and while I don’t intend to have a baby I certainly am not going to put my nipple into a dog’s mouth.

**harmless** , Doodh Ka Karz means “The Duty of [Mother’s] Milk”, or maybe “The Duty owed to [Mother’s] Milk”. You see, in Indian culture having drunk your mother’s milk is very important. Men even say as a challenge, “Agar Maa ka doodh piya tho aao saamne!”

“If you’ve drunk your mother’s milk, then come forth!”

Yes, but it being sexual or non-sexual is not really the issue for me. I don’t think she’s lustful toward the dog or anything. It’s just plain old wrong and there’s no need for it. If she had put it in a bottle and given it to the puppy I would have been much less icked out by it. And breastfeeding may be nosexual, but within our own species…breastfeeding your own baby. My point was the pro-breastfeeding people certainly weren’t going to feel good about this lady in their camp!

**Rufus Xavier** : Actually, I have heard of babies who just didn’t want the breast anymore. Usually, though, it’s because of malnutrition/bad nutrition in the mother’s died - i.e., the milk didn’t taste good.

Yes, but your point is refuting a point he didn’t make. He never said breastfeeding advocates would welcome this woman with open arms. What he said was that such advocates tell us breastfeeding isn’t at all sexual, so there’s no need to be all panty-bunched over her being sexual with a dog. (I know, I know, _you_ didn’t say it was sexually perverted. Other people, however, did. It ain’t always about you. 😉 )

Dear Og.

As shown by my rant in [this](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=286960) thread, I thinbk that there is a subgroup of people who pathologically infantilise and anthropomorphise pets instead of treating them with respect as the animals they are… and this harms both pet and owner.

This, however, takes the cake.

And I love the SDMB. Only here could a thread about breastfeeding dogs turn into a discussion about Bollywood… 🙂

I was just watching one last night! **Swayamvar**. It’s about two men whose father wants them to marry a certain two sisters, so they get up and do whatever they can to obey their father, even though one sister is a spoiled brat and the other is a mentally abused shut-in, and they have to lie to the family, and trick their future wives…all stuff I highly disaprove of, including arranged marriage…

and yet I still love the damn movie. :bangs head on wall:

Its always the same though. We watch the Bollywood movies, disapprove of the themes, but still love 'em. That said, I _loved_ **Lajja**.

My dad was an insurance broker and had an insurance claim he fought. He insured veternarians and one woman was suing the doctor because it let her FIELD MOUSE die. She brought photographs into court of her breastfeeding the mouse. She also had a piece of scotch tape stretched from her nose to her forehead. She was a bit off.

There is something very creepy about this. My gut is that she’ll make headlines more than once in her lifetime!

I remember that one!! I like the songs in that one.

And **FilmGeek** , ‘Mean Girls’ is what I first thought when I read the article. After watching it in the movie, reading about it in the papers is not too much of a shock to me. But the image keeps coming back to me whenever I think about it. Damn.

Well, obviously this woman broke a heavy cultural (American?) taboo, although rationally I can see nothing wrong with her behaviour whatsoever.

I’d never thought I’d disagree with **Sunspace** , but here I do. I don’t see how infantilising and anthropomorphising pets harms the owner. Obviously, it would be better if humans could bond with other humans. But for many people, the choice is between bonding with a pet, or to be lonely.

I think this can be done without harming the pets interests as well. My late great-aunt Gladys crossed the line when she stuffed poor Poodledums with chocolate and let him poop on the balcony, without ever taking him for a walk because she herself didnt go out anymore. But most owners let their dog be a dog, (or as near a dog as he can be in modern society) while still loving him like a child or a friend.
