Also it’s possible to volunteer as Tribute and Volunteer Tributes apparently displace involuntary ones. In richer districts; like 1 or 2 the tributes are always volunteers who’s families have enrolled them in training academies of their own free will. So if you live in one of those districts not only is there less (if any need) to enter multiple times; even with the compulsory entries you won’t ket picked. Presumably those districts have some system in place to deal with mulitiple boys and girls volunteering to go to the Games that year.

That is correct. Katniss is an edible root, that her father liked to forage. Many of the characters have names along these lines.
I feel compelled to make this dumb comment - so here goes - Shirley Jackson’s short story “The Lottery” is much more powerful than these books. It’s almost as if someone read the story and thought it was a good jumping off point for a novel.
