OK, ribs update.
Sunday afternoon I hie me to the Shop-Rite and purchase all the necessary ingredients which we didn’t already have for the sauce and ribs. Also picked up little red potatoes and broccoli, for a side dish (about which more anon).
Spent all afternoon preparing BBQ sauce and parboiling ribs. Also prepared veggies (AWMA).
They turned out great. Of course, the kids wouldn’t eat them. OK, my daughter was at the movies with friends, but she stuck her tongue out and made gagging noises when I told her I was making barbecue ribs. But anything spicier than Wonder Bread is more than she can take.
My son tried a bite and said he liked it, but then the sauce kicked in and he said it was “too burning.” What do you expect from a kid who thinks a boiled hot dog is haute cuisine? sigh I have culinary Philistines for children.
But Mrs. Dave-Guy and I loved 'em. Thanks for the recipe, Ike.
Now, the vegetables. I cut the potatoes into quarters and reduced the broccoli to florets. Seasoned with salt, pepper, dried sweet basil and dried oregano. Was forced to use garlic powder, but am planning to buy fresh diced garlic soon, for just such moments. Also sliced half a small onion and added that. Wrapped it in a foil sarcophagus and set it on the edge of the grill after spreading out the coals. It cooked for the final 20 minutes while the ribs were in the water and for the brief time the ribs were on the grill. Very good veggies.
