If it does cause a lot more damage than predicted, we should probably put the forecasters in jail.
You know what, I’ve never known ANYone actually in any kind of natural disaster to seriously complain later. Sure, they might whistle the wolf away, so to speak, but no. Nobody seriously complains.
I had a Facebook friend post “watch it will probably be 80 and sunny.” When I explained about the different models and tracks and how that was not going to happen. She came back with “I don’t trust the news they are always wrong.” Don’t overestimate people.
Wolf whistling, I promise. After a storm wherein precautions were taken and not needed, nobody complains that they didn’t lose their house.
My university has canceled classes for tomorrow. Unfortunately, my midterms are on Wednesday and Thursday.
There’s this one too.
Current News88 Prediction: North of AC, South of Toms River.
They finally made the call. My unit has been activated. Going in tonight. My unit is more to the north so I doubt we will be by the shore. Probably flood duty elsewhere. Or sitting on our asses like during Irene. You never know. We are just assets for state OEM to move around.
Local NJ news (News12) just put out a prediction saying land fall at Barnegat.
In in the MD suburbs of DC. School has been cancelled for Monday and Tuesday. Child care, also. Guess I’m planning to “work” at home tomorrow. You know, without power. Good times.
New Brunswick, NJ here. Looks like it’s coming straight this way. Thankfully we live well off shore so don’t have to worry about coastal flooding so much. We do live right on the Raritan River, though, so we’ll see how that goes.
I work in Philadelphia (in an area of high flooding, actually.). They closed SEPTA and all Philly public schools, it’s like the whole Mid-Atlantic is shutting down. Even Penn closed, which is freakin’ unheard of. My drive to Philly is an hour and a half on a good day. I am so thanking my lucky stars that my work closes when Philly schools close. Couldn’t be a more inconvenient time, but ah well, whatayagonnado? I certainly don’t want to drive in that crap.
Happy for the extended weekend. We have food, and best of all, we have neighbors who are dear friends. The second we lose power it’s Hurricane Party time.
Springfield, VA checking in. It started raining here in Springfield, VA at 4:25 - just as we were finishing raking our back yard. It was cloudy all day, but mild temperatures. The gas station nearest me was out of everything except premium today. They were fine last night when we topped off Mama Zappa’s car. I was able to get regular gas from a station a mile or two away from my house, on a more major road. The grocery store was out of water yesterday, and still out today.
They closed schools here in Howard County, MD. Monday, too. Come on - nothing even gets here until Mon night. Why close the schools tomorrow morning?
Well, damn. There goes my chance of getting to work. They said they’d stay open till evacuations are ordered, but I doubt they’ll have any teachers or students.
I don’t know about where you are, but up here near Philly, they’re saying that from 8 a.m. tomorrow onward, the sustained wind speed will *start *at 39 m.p.h. and will keep increasing through noon Tuesday. They expect gusts to reach between 60 and 80 m.p.h for about 36 hours. They expect 4-10" of rain, depending on where you are.
This is not weather people should be out and about in.
mr franklin did what he could with kites. he was the one who came up with the nor’east’r moniker. he and his buds slowly (via post) tracked a bad storm that traveled north east up the coast.
getting a bit of rain and wind in phila. the storm is 500+ miles away.
Just got word Rt 18 south into New Brunswick closed at midnight
Tomorrow at 2pm the hurricane is projected to be about 300 miles away from us: Google Maps Help
Closing schools because of that for Monday is ridiculous.
The storm is about 1,000 miles across. The center may be 300 miles away from you, but you are still being affected by it.
According to this site, Howard County, MD, is facing pretty much the same conditions we will be up here.
Are you even paying attention to the predictions for the weather conditions in your area?
I’m pretty sure it didn’t in NYC. I’m totally behind people who are actually going to be affected by the hurricane taking precautions. Even evacuating the coastal areas here is justifiable.
Yes I am. 30 to 40 mph wind is not anything life threatening. A stiff breeze. “Hurricane strength” gusts may be coming on Monday night, but not during the school hours on Monday.
Look, here in Howard county they close the schools as soon as they see one snowflake in the air.
