Sounds like you’ve done good. Also, great post name-post combo.
Fingers crossed for everyone.

Sorry, I’m a little confused. Obey all evacuation warnings but don’t drive anywhere? How else would we obey evac orders?
I tried to move the car to a safer place in our apartment complex, but there really aren’t any safer places. My choice is either trees or power lines, and I chose trees. My husband found a spot between two buildings, so at least this way one of our cars will most likely survive.
My husband is ridiculous, he says there’s probably a 40% chance we’ll lose power for a half hour or so. I’m sorry, honey, but we’re looking at high probability of days without power here. He’s worried about internship applications due November 1st but the monitoring org. sent out an official request to cut New Jersey applicants some slack on the timing. With that in mind, I’m going to play some Torchlight 2 while I still can.
I’m in New Jersey and came to work today. I hadn’t much choice as I have doctors and patients to deal with. Anyway, the NJ Turnpike is open the entire length as far as I know. I drove it this morning and had no problems. If anything, I got to work quicker than usual. Yeah, it’s raining, but almost no wind to speak of, at least at this point. I don’t anticipate staying at work all day but, as for now, it’s a normal rainy day.
The creek out back is rising and it seems like there’s a mini pond in the street out front. Not good. I was hoping to leave before noon but I’m not sure i want to leave now.

This is what it looks like now: http://imgur.com/lpNbL.jpg
There was a break in the rain here a few minutes ago and the yard was filled with cardinals, bluejays, and bluebirds. Absolutely beautiful.
Now the rain’s back and the wind is picking up. Going to enjoy power while I can and then hunker down with a book when the inevitable comes.
If you’re ordered to evacuate, do it now, don’t wait & see. If you’re not ordered to evacuate, don’t drive anywhere you’re not ordered to drive. Stay off the roads to keep them clear for emergency vehicles. If you’re going to drive somewhere, don’t wait until “it gets bad enough” to decide to go. When it “gets bad enough” is the very time when you should keep your ass indoors. Driving west through the entire storm as it strikes is madness. The “we’ll wait till it gets really bad then drive to Michigan!” plan is a nonstarter.
I used to work in Commerce Square - they are some of the worst winds in the city as they are the first highrises coming off of the river; they’re bad on a regular basis & I wouldn’t want to be there today.
A few miles outside of Philly, the winds are finally starting to pick up but it doesn’t seem too bad so far. Of course, I’m saying this from inside my house, where I plan to stay (except for brief dog duty) until Wed.
Here’s a pic from Redhook, Brooklyn - there’s a Fairway Market under there. We’re just getting started!
I’m sorry, what I was trying to say is that if we are ordered to evacuate, we’ll leave immediately, and, if it is safe to do so, drive to Michigan to get out of the way of the oncoming storm. No way in hell I’m staying here under evac orders. But so far we have not been ordered to evacuate, so we’re not going anywhere.
you’ll be fine.
I remember how I felt my first Michigan tornado. Seriously, I thought it was the end of the world. Just keep being the sensible you you’re already being, hang in there.
Here in central Connecticut, the wind has been picking up steadily, but not much rain. Thankfully, we still have power, but I’m not sure how much longer that will last. School and work have been cancelled for us. They say that conditions are supposed to get much worse as the day goes on, especially with respect to the wind. (We’re apparently on the high wind side of the storm.)
Boston’s MBTA is closing at 2. I am so outa here.
I’m stunned to hear that they’re expecting heavy surf on Lake Michigan because of Sandy
I have an uncle with terminal cancer in Caldwell, NJ. I hope he’s going to be OK. I also have other extended family in New York and Connecticut who I imagine should be fine, although they may lose power for a while.
It is actually less windy now than last night.
Time-lapse cams in AC and other locales.
I have a friend in CT whose baby was due yesterday. I would not want to be her right now.
i saw a report where two are missing.
My oldest niece was born a day or two before some major disaster that lost power for a lot of people. I was thinking that it was Mt St Helens erupting, but that was months prior.
I’m in Astoria. Nothing fun going on here except some windiness and a bit o’ drizzle.
I was just reading about it. Coast Guard helicopters rescued 14 of 16 crew members. They had abandoned the ship because it was taking on water.
It doesn’t look good for the last 2.
Washovers reported in Beach Haven on Long Beach Island. I know it’s a small thing to be upset about, given that there are PEOPLE there who stubbornly haven’t left, but…my grandpa’s grave is there. Maybe, *was *there.
