All kinds of surprising things in the Bible.
Though it reads to me more like God was supposed to speak through the mouth of Balaam, and the ass was empowered to speak for herself.

I think it’s a fairly common example that history and political science teachers will bring up when we’re in a presidential election cycle and the media is claiming that it’s the nastiest one ever.

Thanks for that, I plumb didn’t remember that one, even though it involved more ass-smiting than a bad rap video.
I agree with your interpretation. But someone would have to connect the dots for me to explain how that can be turned into a defense of Trump. Ok, humble/crass people can be tapped as God’s mouthpiece. But if the message is a relentless torrent of (possibly treasonous) lies, that would make him the mouthpiece of the other guy, yanno?
Anyway, I hope Biden Jr. hasn’t hooked up with my ex gf. Hey, Beck, what does your suspect look like?

How about a candidate who, in addition to being divorced, fathered a child out of wedlock (and never married the mother) shortly afterwards?
I think Bernie Sanders should step aside for other reasons, but that didn’t matter in 2016 and doesn’t this time either.
And remember Bristol Palin, who was 17, unmarried, and pregnant when her mother was on the Veep trail?
In short, it won’t make any difference.

I have more than once been tempted to ask somebody claiming to speak as a mouthpiece for God whether they’re really, really sure that’s God and not a demon who they think is giving them instructions.

Nope. He really doesn’t.
The Senate trial won’t be about Donald Trump only; it will be just as much about Joe Biden as it will be Donald Trump. The Republicans will push conspiracy theories that will compete for attention with Donald Trump’s quid pro quo and obstruction. The result will be that the public will come away from the experienced confused, frustrated with both parties.
Worse, two or three of the Democratic front runners won’t be able to campaign much in the weeks before the primaries.

Huh. I am not sure I have met anyone even once who claimed to be the mouthpiece of God. Overzealous, haranguing preachers? Sure. But never literally I Speak For God- though I suppose enough people act like it. Ask 'em next time and report back.
Anyway, I will never understand how Trump became the hero of Bible-smiters, and I grew up in red state Jesus land. I do believe they will be able to at once be blind to Trump’s shortcomings while being outraged at Biden’s or whoever’s, but I think that is more a function of being driven half mad about a Liberal Menace that doesn’t even really exist.
