My wife used to have a whole slew of those Hammel figurines. Her husband took all of them in the divorce. Bastard. Who’d of thunk it? Luke Skywalker being the inspiration for German bric-a-brac! ---

My favorite celeb story (I have a few) is when Sissy Spacek was in line in front of me at a crunchy-granola store in Charlottesville, VA (she lived there; I went to grad school there). I didn’t want to disturb Ms. Spacek, because she was out shopping and probably didn’t want people fawning on her. However, her toddler daughter was in the cart playing, and caught my eye. I made silly faces at her, and she was laughing and smiling and making cute-little-kid noises, and all the while Ms. Spacek never noticed. It was the littlest Spacek’s and my private little moment.
