I always knew Seth Rogen would destroy the world

Going off at a rather trivial tangent – but this is “Mundane Pointless Stuff”, after all… having been mostly away from the Net for a few days, I’ve only just become aware of this thread.

I’m no kind of film or drama buff, and before seeing this thread, had never heard of Seth Rogen (or any envisaged forthcoming comedy on the theme of killing Kim Jong-un). The thread title sent my thoughts straight to what was for many years, a feature of the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph. This paper – on the conservative side of the political spectrum – had a daily satirical / humorous column, appearing under the author’s pseudonym of Peter Simple. This guy (deceased a few years ago) strongly held far-right-wing views, and harboured bitter hatred of many aspects of late-twentieth-century life in general; to all of which feelings he gave free rein in his column.

I – though with little agreement or sympathy vis-a-vis Peter Simple’s opinions – found his column often hiliariously funny; particularly when, as occasionally happened, he forgot about his socio-political agenda for a while, and wrote stuff which was just marvellously silly. He had an assortment of absurd characters of his invention, whose doings were chronicled over the years in the column. One such, whom I recall as being good value: was an extremely technologically-advanced farmer, up to all things in farming which a few decades ago, were regarded by some, as rash and dubious. This character made exuberant use of every kind of pesticide and herbicide, wiping out most forms of life within several miles of his farm; carried on all manner of highly experimental breeding of animals, with the assistance of a great assortment of chemical and radiation-based techniques, producing varied kinds of mutant monster; went in for not-traditionally-British “prairie farming”, involving huge areas of monocultures of sundry bizarre crops; etc., etc.

This genius of progressive agriculture was called Seth Roentgen, and his domain was the Ohm (“Home”) Farm. On first seeing the thread title, I truly thought – until reading further on – that the reference was to Peter Simple’s character, a bit mis-spelled; and that the topic was going to be the threat posed to the health and maybe the future of the planet, by widely-applied modern farming practices.

Obama announced in a press conference today that the U.S. regrets this movie being made. …/QUOTE]
This is true?

The President of the US again feels it necessary to regret an insignificant production because other people don’t understand free speech? He should tell them that he was first in line.

Do you understand the concept of a joke?

Ok, ok.

(Bump!)
