Well if we’re telling roadkill stories, here’s mine (thankfully I wasn’t driving - my record is still spotless _knock wood_): My husband and I were on our way home from picking up our classic car in New York State and were enjoying a drive around Albany (freakin’ beautiful architecture, wow) when a suicidal squirrel shot out from underneath a parked car right under our front tire. If it didn’t die on impact the car behind us finished it off. We did circle back to make sure and yes, it was flat. One of the reasons why it took me so long to get my driver’s license is that I’m terrified of one day hitting an animal. I’m constantly watching for them. ---

Even living here I find it hard to believe, but an amazing 1 out of 6 traffic accidents in Wisconsin involve hitting a deer. ---

There a lot of roadkill deer along the sides of I94, a lot. And a friend in Mineral Point managed to hit two deer in two weeks. Admittedly, leaving for a driving job at 4:00 a.m. increases the chances. ---

We have a bunny that makes occasional appearances outside and doesn’t run away very quickly when our car pulls into the driveway. We’ve taken to calling her Judy, as in Judy Hopps from _Zootopia._ ---

heh I was in a foster home for about 3 years it was rural … so you could have farm animals and they raised rabbits for meat … Well 8 year old me and my brother liked feeding them and playing with them and such but there was a mean one that bit and scratched … foster dad was deep south African American said one day "so if you were going to have one for dinner which one would ya want … with out hesitation I pointed to the fat mean one … he grabs it by the scruff hangs it by the bottom legs witht some well used rope gave it 2 nice smacks in the head with a length of pipe took a special knife cleaned and skinned it in about 5 minutes put it in a freezer bag and sent me off to the missus with dinner … I was stunned my brother was having a fit had to dig the hole for the remains by my self … … of course a week or two later the same thing happened with a couple chickens but that didn’t bother us as much except I learned 1 running like a chicken with its head off wasn’t just a saying and 2 plucking chickens is a bitch … but I didn’t have to wonder where the hand made fur lined mittens I got as a goodbye present were from … and I can watch hunting and survival shows andn ot blink an eye at the cleaning part … [Previous page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/i-am-a-horrible-person-killed-a-bunny/757753.md?page=1)
