It’s not that it’s grown up to care about whether you learn plot points in advance. (Although children often DON’T LIKE surprised or suspense, and prefer to know how a movie will turn out.) But it is grown up to make plans and not rush to do things immediately. And also to have the self control to respect others’ desires not to hear plot points, of course.

I get that…but the ship has sailed. At this point the term “spoiler” only means “a particular twist or plot event has been given away, when otherwise it would have emerged in context as part of the larger viewing/reading/listening experience.”

AFAICT, pretty much no one thinks an entire movie is roont after a spoiler.

And it is certainly NOT being a grownup to NOT want to know major plot points in movie.

How anybody can’t comprehend that (even if they don’t give a shit) is beyond me.

The disproportionate reaction is beyond ridiculous though.

One guy calls you an asshole? Maybe he had a bad day. Everyone calls you an asshole? Maybe you’re an asshole.

You screwed up big time. Your excuses and refusal to accept that you screwed yo big are just making it worse.

And when posters who are probably otherwise mortal enemies are all agreeing with each other about it, it is even more certain 🙂

This reminds me of the Dr Who Pandorica (sp?) episode.

And what you _should_ say from this point onward is… nothing. Seriously, shut the fuck up about it. There’s no magic-formula-explanation you can give that’s going to make this better. Give it time and hope only a handful of readily ignorable people still remember this a few months from now.

Thank you, everyone, and thank you to Personal who pm’ed me to tell me to be careful i n this thread. Thankfully by the time I got here Miller had taken care of it.

I no more believe Rigamarole didnt t know his post would be obnoxious than I believe unicorns would fly out of my butt. I had rigamarole on ignore for a long time for being a douchebag. I guess he’ll just go back on ignore.

As to spoilers. I know lots of people love spoilers. They scour the internet for every spoiler they can. This in my opinion is a little childish, that you just can’t wait for the surprise but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I have some childish traits in me, too. And I understand the world favors those who love spoilers.

But I so do not. Will knowing a spoiler ruin the movie for me? No, but it will lessen the enjoyment. When I watch a movie I try to immerse myself, be along for the ride, and let the movie take me where it will. I like being surprised and there is nothing wrong with that.

I’ve gotten really good at avoiding spoilers, especially since I am late to all my shows since I watch them on Netflix. I don’t even care if people discuss spoilers as long as I get fair warning. And if I stumble on one, that’s my fault. But blurting it out is pretty much being an inconsiderate asshole. I respect people who love spoilers, but I don’t get that respect back.

Rigmarole, you are a douchebag. I just wanted to be sure that was clear.

FTR, we are seeing it tomorrow. I wanted to see it Monday but the mall was mobbed.

The etiquette I saw being followed on Instagram was not posting spoiler related material for one week. With a movie like Star Wars the expectation of not being spoiled diminishes faster than other movies considering the whole internet is talking about it. But now I just realized the movie has only been out just over a week and not two, so I suppose it’s ok for Rigamorole to be thrown into the Sarlaac pit.

Who cares what instagrma is doing? On this MB, the rule is, generally, no spoilers unless the thread explicitly calls of them. I would expect that stay in place until the film is no longer being shown in theaters.

So, what is wrong with posting a spoiler in a thread where the Op has specifically asked for and allowed spoilers?

In the current **Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Seen It (Assume Spoilers Within)** there are\* tonnes\* of spoilers.

In fact the very spoiler that Rigamarole is being castigated for (and properly so) was mentioned several times without a demur or a spoiler box.

So, in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Seen It (Assume Spoilers Within) there are spoilers, yes? Are those posters also “deliberately spoiling people that they knew wished to be unspoiled”?:dubious: If there’s a\*\* SPOILER WARNING\*\* in the Op/title of the thread, then those who do not wish to be spoiler should stay out. That’s the rules.

Nor were any of my posts deleted.

So, what do folk agree is a “reasonable” time to expect to remain spoiler free? I kinda have a hard time accepting that anyone who really cared about being spoiled couldn’t get around to seeing it within the first couple weeks. My daughter is even worse - she’s not going to see it until January. But, once she said that, we certainly were able to discuss topics other than this one movie.

My wife an I are far from fanatics, and we managed to see it the weekend after it came out, in a 2/3 full theater. IMO, there is a limit to how much one ought to expect everyone else to restrict their conversations.

Yeah, your in-laws are assholes - but at least you aren’t related to that fucker **Rigamarole**!
