BTW, @madmonk28, saying two opposite things in the same paragraph (“The U.S. needs to fall fast and Trump can make it happen” and “I am not supporting Trump or the rapid fall of the U.S.”) does not mean that we do not understand you. It means that either you are a blithering idiot, or you think _we_ are blithering idiots.
Which is it?

Whoa! Dial it back, please.
Madmonk28 is not a blithering idiot.
We’re all very frustrated here, and for very good reasons (if you’re not, you’re not paying attention). Madmonk is providing a useful, larger-time-scale perspective, using provocatively pessimistic word choices, as is perfectly understandable, given the _facts._
On some level, I’m sure we’re all feeling similar – yes, **contradictory** – feelings. If you have appendicitis, you want the agony to end, but do you want to have someone cutting into your body? That doesn’t sound like fun either! Not a perfect analogy, I know, but justified anger → seemingly contradictory desires, especially when we all still have at least a little hope for a brighter tomorrow, for the US and for the world.
I found the posts more clear-eyed than most – so that contradiction was barely noticeable to me.

But isn’t this the same perspective of the Trumpists who want to blow it all up, though expecting a different outcome?

On one hand Madmonk seems to be saying the US should collapse and a better world will rise like a phoenix from the flames while, on the other hand, the authoritarians think that everything should be blown up and a nice, tidy, orderly world - favouring the strong - will rise like a phoenix from the flames.

Both views are simplistic and unrealistic, are they not?

Or wait, maybe that’s disengenuous poppycock, and that I’m pretty sure that North Carolina’s State Board of Elections are aware of how the vast majority of those voters would have voted.

They are. Maybe I missed something, but I didn’t quite get a “phoenix from the ashes” vibe from Madmonk’s post. More along the lines of my post using Hungary as an example. More quickly get to where the US, in various ways, is the locus of _lowered expectations,_ where that 47% is no longer seen as a harbinger of doom, but it’s just who we are…and then, maybe, we can build up a little from there, to something a little better, but at least honest about the raw materials we have to work with.

Something like that.

I, myself, don’t like the idea of destroying democracy. Trump, and his followers seem to be fine with the idea.

Clear thinking people know that putting a narcistic egomaniac in power is not likely going to lift the general population up. In that case, when the water rises, not all boats will rise. Many will still be anchored, can’t move and will sink.

That 47% crawled out from under their rocks to support that moron, is very, very troubling. I will be happy to help them in anyway possible. But when they refuse help again, and again, what are you gonna do?

Far too many years of being told by others what people are “really” meaning and saying, far too many years of being told by others that I am not getting the “real” gist of what someone is saying-I’ll tell you what I want. I want the person who pisses me off to come here and tell me, _without seeming contradiction_, what they “really” mean.
Not Trump mouthpieces, not Vance press secretaries, and certainly not _you_. Either we need to hurry up and dump our current situation down the drain, with Trump being the best way to go about it(and with absolutely no idea what the result is going to be), or we don’t.

I can thank them for that service (which is extremely commendable) and also lambast them for the unhinged rhetoric here. People can do great things and shitty things, and they don’t excuse each other or cancel each other out.

I work in state government and work with people who do a great job keeping the government running, making things better for our citizens, and at the same time hating the Democratic governor they work for and lamenting the fact that Trump isn’t POTUS (while also spreading and believing in Qanon-type conspiracy theories).

People are complicated and can and will take actions and hold beliefs that are contradictory from each other.

The only possible upside I can see to a Trump presidency is that maybe a big chunk of the 47% that vote for him will look on in horror at what they’ve wrought and will say “never again”.

But I doubt even that would happen.

And if it did it would probably be too late.

Why would that happen? They voted for him twice before and now all of a sudden you expect them to look in horror after seeing what he did the first time they voted for him?

The ones that cause the collapse need to be thinking, _period_, and Trump is not the best catalyst at all for that supposed eventuality-he is by far the _worst_. A Trump-type downfall of this nation will definitely put the far right powerful in charge. You need to quit thinking “seesaw” and start thinking “a nasty push off a cliff onto the rocks below” when it comes to a fast collapse with that man as the catalyst.

It’s going to be stressful AF. But its really looking like a Harris win is the likely outcome. I’m even daring to the think jusst might not be close. Not that it would not be stressful if Harris has a clear lead in the swing states going into election day, but a 50-50 polling (which it has been for most of the year) would be unbearable.

In terms of MAGA contesting it, of course they will but unless it’s very close (basically a narrow Harris win in a Republican dominated state deciding the electoral college) that will amount to a bunch of shrill whining from a collection of man babies, which I am looking forward to listening to. They aren’t stealing this one if they lose by multiple states and they are having a revolution whatever they claim.
