Oooh, I have another one; a Rubik’s Cube. Right shape. Instantly recognizable, colorful, and funny. You should be able to construct a cube out of ordinary cardboard that will fit around the chair’s chassis and wheels and have cut out parts on the front and sides so you can see. For extra realism, take a real Rubik’s Cube, mix it up, and go with that pattern so your costume is an actual solvable pattern (not that anyone would know, or would be able to see the pattern on the bottom, anyway.) ---

A friend who is in a wheelchair wore a superman costume the first or second Halloween after Christopher Reeve’s accident. It may have been “too soon” as he rankled some people, including one guy who wanted to fight him. When he realized the chair wasn’t just part of the costume, he sorta changed his tune. ---

One of the nerds had bought the time machine movie prop. Big kinda steampunky thing with the giant brass levers with massive colored crystals on the ends, the spinning disk on the back with Victorian like decoration, a plush red velvet seat, all sorts of ornate details and so on and so on. Well, the neighbor girl finally gets tired of all these grown men obsessing over this thing. In frustration she says something like “This is not a time machine. It looks like something Elton John would tool around in the Everglades with!” So maybe you need to make it Time Machine like but dress like Elton John or Liberachee (sp?). Are you short? Balding? Unemployed? Living with your mother? A social misfit? Then perhaps a George Castanza (Caaaasssstaaanzzzaaa!) outfit might work out? But then you’d need a Little Rascal I suppose. On a serious note. I saw a young woman in a steampunk-adorned wheelchair at GenCon last year. No idea if she did it herself, or if there’s someone out there who does it. I’d go for the Professor X costume, if you’re willing to shave your head. OTOH, if you’re already bald, it’s an easy costume. 🙂 ---
