that is one fantastic hair cut choice! You looked pretty in the before, but you look really happy and beautiful in the after pics. Makes me want to cut mine off again.
I think it’s a getting unstuck thing - you do one thing that you’ve been putting off/worrying about, and it gives you the impetus to tackle the next thing on your list.
Well, it will grow back. And it does sound like you need a cut. But why go from long to super-short? Why not just tell the expert “Cut what you need to, to make it even and look good.”?
Go to a beautician’s school. Cheap cheap prices, and if you go to a good school, then you’ll probably get a very skilled student. I go to Ogle (don’t know if that’s local or not) and the students take a little more time than a Fantastic Sam’s or a Supercuts, but they charge a lot less, and a teacher always examines the finished cut or dye job or whatever. And I do mean the teacher does a very thorough exam. I always get my hair combed this way and that, to ensure that there are no straggly miscut bits. The students are always well informed about the latest trends, although I think that my requests bore them, because I just want long, loose layers.
And they always ask if I’m sure that I want my hair cut that short. I always tell them that it’s hair, it WILL grow back.
A LOT more time, in my experience. I went to one locally once and it took 90 minutes for a stacked bob. And they charge more based on how long your hair is at the beginning (which is ridiculous, IMO), and charged extra for “styling” (blow drying), so for me it just wasn’t worth it. A friend of mine goes there to get her long hair cut, colored, and foiled, and she’s there for 3 or 4 hours every time.
Eh, by the time I’ve had my hair cut, recut, and recut again at the Supercuts or whatever, the beauty school might even be quicker. The chop shops will do a quick but very bad job, and I’m never happy afterwards. The Ogle school will do a slow job, but they’ll usually only have to do it ONCE. This is probably just a variation in the schools and chop shops in our areas, but I have never, ever been satisfied with the first cut that the chop shop will give me, or give my daughter, and I’m too cheap to go to the high end salons.
I go to the local beauty school for hair color. Or rather, I did, but the last time they did a corrective color that was pretty darn close and I’m going to let it just grow out as is. Yes, they are slow, but given the length of my hair the cost is about 1/3 of even a regular salon.
And don’t even get me started on high end salon cuts. As I mentioned previously, I went to an Ouidad salon for a cut that was just ok. It cost 4 times as much as if I’d gone to the local Best Cuts and didn’t turn out any differently.
Well, I cut about three inches off my hair this morning. I got up and looked at the cut she gave me yesterday, and it was just ridiculous. Imagine a shoulder-length long layered cut (which is what I had), and then to make it a short cut, just cut the bottom of the hair up to my ears - that’s what my hairdresser did. There’s a really good haircutter at that salon; I’ll have to make an appointment with him in the future rather than just taking the luck of the draw.
It doesn’t sound like you liked the cut so I’d try the salon you mentioned. I cut my past the shoulder hair this spring and I love it. I never got compliments until I got a short cut. I can pull it behind my ears or wear it down. There are a lot of options with this cut. If it’s too short try and find a pic of a cut you like and bring it with you. Good Luck tommorrow.
I think it’s fun to experiment on hair. It’ll grow back! And there are always quick fixes if you are not satisfied with the results and/or are too impatient for it to grow back. If you don’t like the length, you can always get extensions. If the curls are too much for you at that length, you could get thermal reconditioning process done. If it seems too uninspired, you could jazz it up with a different color or highlights. Etc, you get the picture. I’d say go for it!
