Funeral guy/mortician: “That is our most modestly priced receptacle”
“Chinaman” is not the preferred nomenclature.
"It’s uh… uh… it’s down there somewhere, let me take another look. "
So you have no frame of reference here, Jurph. You’re like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know…
Fuck it, let’s bowl.
That’s the problem with your plan, its so fucking simple it didn’t work
You’re not privy to all this new shit, man… that’s come to light…
You mean coitus?
another caucasian, gary.
Fortunately, I’m adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug, uh, regimen to keep my mind, you know, uh, limber.
Hey You! Thanks for the heads up. I am definitely going to try to get out for that – I’ve never been to the Screenland, but Lebowski should be worth it.
Bunny: “. . . he’s a nihilist.”
Dude: “That must be exhausting.”
Yes, that’s your answer. That’s your answer to everything! Tattoo it to your forehead!
Your revolution is over, BMalion! Condolences! The bums lost!
Am I really gonna be the one to say it? Wow.
Don’t fuck with the Jesus!
Donny; “Are they Nazis?”
Walter “No Donny, they’re nihlists.”
“You can imagine what happens next.”
“He fixes their cable?”
We believe in nothing! We will cut off your tchonson!
Unless its a sabbath, because some people don’t drive, don’t answer phones, don’t even roll on a sabbath. Exceptions being emergencies like kidnap.
“I don’t like your jerkoff name, I don’t like your jerkoff face, and I don’t like you, Jerkoff.”
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t listening.”
So, what are you guys talking about?
In the Intro to Film class I’m taking now I had an assignment a couple of weeks ago to write about a movie of my choice. I went with The Big Lebowski. I watched it, often pausing to write down notes. I was going to then write a paper the next day.
I have to say, I enjoyed the movie a lot more when I didn’t try to analyze it in depth. The day after I watched it I decided to write a paper about the short film “Film” instead. I noticed some interesting things in The Big Lebowski though. I’m new to analyzing films so this probably isn’t very insightful (SPOILERS might be here) :
The telephone is a recurring plot device. People get phone calls a lot of times in this film. Two examples off the top of my head are when he’s visiting Maude the second time, and when he’s visiting the pornographer guy.
They reused the fake kidnapping thing from Fargo, but they do it in a self-referencing way instead of a lazy, derivative way.
I like the part where we get into Don’s head: he’s bowling, and you can hear Walter and The Dude talking in the background but their voices are muffled. I thought that was subtly clever.
Is that during the final bowling scene?
There’s a lot of repetition in that film, lines, props, characters popping up again and again. I wish my friends hadn’t moved to Liverpool and Japan, it was good fun watching the film as a group, if only I’d started my dope smoking back then too
