Thanks for the suggestions. I’m looking forward to the trip.
Yup, I had the opportunity to speak with some locals at length at a Mariners game, and it became very clear that wife’s bumbershoot distinguished us as tourists…!
It’s hard to go wrong with Seattle (or Vancouver, for that matter). The nature is great, the city is great, even the touristy stuff is great (as people have mentioned - the Underground tour is absolutely worth the time). The one thing that I will say is that the public transportation is mid-range at best, coming from my East Coast baseline, and walking around the city kind of sucks: it’s relatively compact but it’s all hills. Hope you have a great time!
Oh I loved that museum! But I’m a bit odd.
And if you really want to fit in you better wear a North Face® product of some kind but Carhartt will do in a pinch.
I visited Seattle in November and I had a pretty good time. I stayed at two different hotels. One with a big lion on it and another one right by the Seahawk’s stadium. I’m a museum person and Seattle did not disappoint. My favorite was the Museum of History and Industry but EMP was pretty good to. If the weather isn’t clear I don’t know if I’d bother going up in the Space Needle. I pretty much stuck to Seattle proper and used public transportation to get everywhere I needed to go. I also went to Bremerton via the ferry and walked around there for a bit.
Be prepared to smell pot every goddamn day. I was there for seven days and there wasn’t a single one that went by without smelling it.
I enjoyed the cheese from Beecher’s which is at Pike’s Market (or across the street I guess), the crab cakes at Elliot’s, and this hole in the wall bar/pizza place over by the stadium whose name escapes me. There’s a wide variety of food’s to try from the inexpensive to the expensive and a lot of it is good.
