I think he is confusing them with yoga pants. Mmmm, yoga pants.
I too am sick of slut shaming through dress codes. Women and girls should be allowed to dress how they want, and if they need to be shamed for being slutty, it should be done individually and personally with a spanking on the bare bottom while announcing with a whisper: “dirty, dirty slut”.
And people say you’re a piece of shit.
Now I think you need a spanking.
The thing about it is, feminists don’t all agree on how things like this should be handled. That may seem contradictory to you but it’s really not much different than if a guy has a different opinion from another guy. It’s also a pretty good reflection of how crazymaking this is as a culture - women are both hindered in expressing themselves sexually and viewed as sexual objects. We are sent extremely mixed messages about sex, and teenage girls, somehow, have to learn how to navigate this. How can I be sexy without being a slut? Meanwhile boys have it repeatedly pounded into their brains that they need to be strong and stoic and horny or they aren’t real men. Why is it that men are expected to endure tragedy in silence? Why is it such a big fucking deal if a man needs time off work to take care of his kids? This gender-normative bullshit fucking sucks, for all of us, men and women. There are just a whole bunch of bullshit rules both genders are expected to follow, and the rules change all the time depending on who you ask!
I hate disagreeing with people I like, but the most reasonable poster in this thread has been Crazyhorse. Maybe I’m biased because he brought the science. I don’t think there’s anything inherently wrong with a more conservative dress code in schools even if it is intended to minimize ‘‘distractions.’’ And while I agree it’s entirely subjective, there are certainly dressing styles that can reasonably called inappropriate in a school setting. The problem is girls/women are so hypersexualized that things like girls’ shoulders and legs are deemed inappropriate. Some people have mentioned boys wearing crotch-bulging pants as a corollary, but that doesn’t really work because it’s gotten to the point where it seems like every friggin’ part of a woman’s body is considered provocative and distracting. If we’re going to have a reasonable dress code, the rules will be the same for boys and girls.
The correct term for that is the Whale Tail. Tramp Stamp optional.
I know this sounds insane but if I’d had to wear a uniform in school, I would have preferred ties, wool slacks, and crested blazers. The khaki and polo shirts/ “business casual” uniforms typical of today’s school uniforms for boys are bland and ugly. As for the girls, I’ve only ever seen the uniforms my SD used to wear to her parochial schools, and I thought they looked better; at least they looked like a nicer quality of clothing than cheap Docker-like pants and polos.
Well, I can see your point. I hate khakis and polo shirts on middle-aged people; it’s just depressing on kids (that’s my nephew’s school’s uniform).
If I were still in school, I’d hold out for a kilt and blazer for girls, slacks and blazer for boys, white shirt and striped tie for both genders. Flat shoes for both genders. At least then kids can can “rebel” by badly tying the tie and wearing weird socks and hair accessories. Surely people can’t manage to fuck up wearing socks and barrettes?
