An honest question here, John, how do you feel about the rhetoric used by the general public and politicians? Which side uses derogatory language more often?

There. I feel much younger.
“Secret Muslim” makes me crazy.
That’s pretty much what the OP is about, amongst other things. I’m glad I could help you become a little less stupid.
There was a lot of George Herbert Walker Bush when he was running against Clinton. It was a way to highlight his blueblood upbringing as opposed to Clinton’s.
The nonsense against Obama is far worse, and done for worse reasons IMHO (catering to racism and anti-Islamic attitudes among the electorate).
What is wrong with you?
You are aware that many people, perhaps most, disagree with this, right? e.g. Redistribution of income and wealth - Wikipedia
I don’t think anything is wrong here. “Stupid” is a a valid word that has its own wikipedia entry. It has no slant left or right and is simply accurately describing the situation. I don’t see how you could take offense.

Have not had that thrown at me any time in the last 10 years, but my suggested response is;
“Wow. You must be their best customer if they call you in advance to let you know what they’re out of”.
Although it could be argued that a better response would be
“You must be their top supplier of jerkitude if they call you to let you know they’re running out of product”

The proper response is, of course, “'That’s ok, you’re their best seller.”

I think he’s being all meta-like with regards to the topic of the OP.
Or he’s just yanking your chain. One of the two.

It’s much harder to gauge the “general public” than it is to gauge this MB, the latter being a much smaller set. But the conservatives seem to be waaaaaay more vocal on the radio, with the likes of Limbaugh and Hannity and those guys sure do sling the shit. I really couldn’t say about the “general public”. I have a lot of conservative friends, but we don’t talk politics much.
Politicians… I find myself more aligned with Democrats than Republicans these days, and while the Democrats have a few firebrands, I would say the Republicans have a lot more people focusing on negativity and on demonizing the other side. They also tend to be more disciplined, IMO, on toeing the party line than the Democrats are. What I find more disturbing about the Republicans is the substance of what the likes of the Palins, Bachmanns and the Santorums rather than the tone. The tone is bad, but words are only words. When you’re pushing bad policies, you’re doing a lot more damage.

To which a learned gentleman responds “Yeah well I had sex with your wife”.

That was an awesome username/post combo, FuriousGeorge.
“Yeah, well, the life support machine called, and … (mumble mumble) … THAT’S IT! YOU’RE BEAT, REILLY! YOU JUST SCREWED YOURSELF!”

You have to give Rush some credit. He does come up with some interesting ways of insulting lefties. Feminazis is a good term. Wrong but pretty inventive. He has others but I have not heard his show in a few years. I don’t have enough discipline to not break radios.

crony capitalism
Interpreting the OP a bit to mean the common uses of these terms in current debate about US politics, I almost totally agree. But I don’t get this one. What’s wrong with ‘crony capitalism’? I almost only hear this when the speaker is actually talking about cronyism or corruption in business - particularly how it relates to the government. Can someone explain why this one belongs on the list?
