Or it might take about 30 seconds. “Whoever wants to see the play, step over there. Whoever doesn’t, follow me to the classroom.” But then again, now we’re debating pointless things that can’t be proven. I don’t care much about the little nitty gritty things, only that the principal and the vice principal lied, got together and got a story to tell us (the only two complaining) and didn’t apologize. It’s simple as that. Their reason was a lie and it hurt my girlfriend. Had they said some of the points that have come up here (some of which may actually be something that could have been a half good reason) I wouldn’t be as angry. ---

If you look at the simple fact that on the tape the bell rings at a specific time, the people were there 20 minutes before that bell rang and also the fact that none of our scenes are larger than 5 minutes you have to come to the conclusion that the reason that the principal said was a blatant lie. You mention that your vice principal told you that your gf et al arrived at “10 of 2”. I’m not familiar with that grammatical construction, but could’nt it have meant 2:10 , or just that you misunderstood that they arrived at 10 to 2 ? If that was the case, and as you mentioned that the 2:10 bell came 3 minutes before the end of the play, then I don’t see justification for a rant. As you were in the play, likely not amenable to bullshit, and knowing educators generally hold their integrity among their students of extreme importance, I am somewhat reluctant to accept that they lied to you. ---

grienspace, by “10 to 2” I mean 1:50. They arrived at that time because I was told by several people they waited for that period of time. ---

It could well be that seating people between scenes would have been (in the VP’s judgement) disruptive. In that case, s/he should have given **that** as a reason, instead of lying about the breaks. I’d be pissed too; I expect a higher standard from people who purport to be authority figures. ---

Yes **Taran** , you are right. It would not have bothered me as much if he had simply had that as a reason. I would be mildly angry, but that is a totally valid reason if that was how he felt. If that is how he felt I wish he had said that. However the facts show that he was lying when he used the reason that they arrived after the last scene had started. Oh, Greinspace, yes, about 40 minutes or so was the total length. And there were actually several small scenes at the very beginning (only a minute or two) that I didn’t count because they didn’t really apply to this. I only mentioned the last few scenes and the very last scene that was larger. I didn’t notice the time that it started because I was sitting backstage working on costume stuff when the chorus was going, so I wasn’t watching a clock. Later I was told what time it started (and yes, I looked at the tape and went backward from the time of the bell to verify it) to realize that it had started at around quarter of. I still wish I knew why this is such a huge mystery to some people… I proved that he was lying by compairing his reason to the time that is known in the play (the bell ringing) and I worked my way backward and counted the spaces between scenes until I reached 1:50. If there was even ONE then he was lying. There was 3 (although there was a 4th that was very close). ANY OTHER QUESTIONS?! ---

Clayton, Clayton, Clayton. It’s obvious you’ve never been to a performance. If you miss the opening curtain, you have to wait for a suitable break before the usher will let you in. In some cases, that may very well be intermission. If you miss the curtain after intermission, you again have to wait for a break in the play. This may be the closing curtain. Depends on the program. And if you’re so late that you’ve missed most of it, you probably won’t get in at all. Has to do with manners, see. It’s VERY distracting to the performers to have people coming and going, and a large group coming in at the end is certainly a distraction. Look, I know that you’re hurt and angry that your girlfriend was not able to see you in the play. However, there were other factors here. What you thought to be a break between scenes probably wasn’t. And, as you mentioned, the end-of-school bell was to ring at 2:10 and, in fact, rang before the play was over. The administration probably didn’t want to a) disrupt the play, and b) go much past the closing bell. Chalk it up to bad timing, buck up and get over it.
