Who owns the copyright/trademark/IP that is allowing this whole Lorax thing to happen? That’s where our ire should be directed. Dammit, I keep missing my own edit windows. Just wanted to say, for the record, I will not be watching this film, ever, if it in any way costs me money to do so. Further, I’ll think carefully before giving any money to anyone involved in the film in any way, including Danny Devito. That last one’s gonna be hard, because I’ve actually met him a couple of times, and he is (or was) a pretty cool guy. But perverting this story like this is just too much. What’s next? A film version of _Silent Spring_ where they show how much more humane and caring it would be to slaughter all the birds and deer and rabbits so they don’t die of exposure or starvation or disease? ---

Actually–and I haven’t seen the movie–I have seen some reviews who say the characterization of The Lorax is angry and bitter–not funny. Like this is a criticism. ---

For he’s a jolly good Onceler. Aren’t we all? My wife laughed at me when she caught me glaring menacingly at the TV when a Lorax commercial (for the movie, that is) came on. I knew there was just no way they would remake it with any semblance of respect for the original. Can you imagine the pitch? “And it ends with the creepy old guy giving the kid a single seed!” The gloom! The sickening smack! The sense that all may already be lost! There’s no way they would remotely consider these things. Then I read that the remake includes a kid and his efforts to attract a particular girl. They can’t help writing the same movie over and over, and we can’t help paying them to do it. I wouldn’t fuck this movie with **Snowboarder Bo’s** dick, even if he hadn’t already thrown it in the quarry a long time ago. ---

The couple people I’ve known who saw the movie thought it was pretty good for a movie, actually. (And apparently people are confusing product placements with product tie-ins.) But good god the marketing. Irony is dead. ---
