# I apologize to Dex and to the board

One Thanksgiving my mother cooked a turkey that my grandfather gave her, which he had stored in his freezer for a while. He said it was fine, but the longer it cooked, the odder it began to smell. By the time it was done, the entire kitchen smelled like ripe farts and none of us could even stand to open the oven door, let alone think about carving or eating the turkey, so we threw away it in the outside garbage can and ate something else instead.
After that, “the year the turkey smelled like old farts” became something of a cherished family legend. I hadn’t thought of it in years, until I read this thread.

Are you smoking the same stuff **Shodan** is smoking, or was that just random? How can you tell when a fart is ripe? You can’t squeeze it, you can’t see what color it is. Do you just measure how much it makes your eyes water?
